"Learn the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ by frequent reading of the Divine Scriptures.
For in the sacred books, the Father who is in heaven meets His children with great love and speaks with them."
Catholic Scripture Study is designed to help everyone break through the barrier of uncertainty and self-doubt that comes with studying the Bible. Although it may seem difficult at first, you will soon enjoy the powerful, life-changing experience of meeting the Lord, together with others, in Sacred Scripture. This is the consistent testimony of Catholics who have had the courage to persevere through those early, awkward feelings.
CSS at Sacred Heart, Glyndon incorporates materials and guidance from both the Baltimore and International directors. The parish program is administered by volunteers from within our Catholic laity, and is self-funded through the annual registration fee. This approach alleviates administrative responsibilities for the Parish Pastoral staff while operating under their direct supervision and support. Sessions are scheduled from September to March.
This study combines lessons, small-group discussions, DVD lectures, handouts, fellowship meals, and more! Participants meet Thursdays, 9:45 - 11:45 a.m. or 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Weekly attendance is recommended but not required, and no previous Bible study experience is necessary!

How do Catholics study Scripture? To study Scripture as a Catholic is to recognize that the Church is our teacher. The Magisterium of the Church, by a charism of the Holy Spirit, safeguards the true meaning of Scripture for us. This is a great gift! We study the Bible to be both informed and transformed. The goal of CSS is to increase our familiarity with all the books of the Bible (the stories, the history, the people, the prayers, the ideas, etc.) so that we can enter more deeply into the life of Christ, in whom all Scripture finds its ultimate meaning, and enter more deeply into the life of His Church.
CSS incorporates the Tradition of the Church, the Teachings of the Early Church Fathers, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which serve as a lens through which the words of Scripture come into clear focus. This is why Scripture Study for Catholics is a rock-solid investment of time and effort – the joy of truth is guaranteed!
