Liturgical Ministries

"If anyone speaks, let it be as with words of God. If anyone ministers, let it be as from the strength that God furnishes;
that in all things God may be honored through Jesus Christ, to whom are the glory and the dominion forever."
1 Peter 4:11

Altar Servers

Boy and girl altar servers assist the priest in the celebration of the liturgy. Besides weekend masses, altar servers also minister at special liturgies such as weddings and funerals as well as at devotions such as Stations of the Cross or Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

To be eligible to serve at Sacred Heart one must:

  • be at least in the fourth grade;

  • be enrolled in either a Catholic school or our Religious Education program;

  • have received the sacraments of Baptism, Penance, and Eucharist;

  • be a practicing Catholic - that is, regularly attending Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation;

  • be responsible in showing up when assigned (or arranging for a substitute);

  • and exhibit reverence when serving on the altar.

If you are interested in training to become an altar server, please click here to print and fill out an altar server application and contact Fr. Canisius.

Greeters - Ministers of Hospitality

"I was a stranger and you welcomed me."  (Mt 25:35)

Take an active roll in our weekend liturgies by becoming a minister of hospitality - a Greeter! We need parishioners to join us in "revealing the face of Christ" to others. All of us, adults and teenagers, can be "greeters". All you need is a genuine smile and an initiative to greet.

If you feel that you have a gift for welcoming or a gift for smiling, please consider joining our "Greeter Ministry". Our primary responsibility is to welcome those entering our parish to celebrate Mass and wish them a blessed day as they leave. The warmth and personalization associated with this greeting is contagious, stays with us, and helps us live out the Gospel message. For more info, contact Fr. Canisius at 410-833-1696 or
