"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God?
You are not your own; you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." 1 Cor 6:19-20
SHGSC provides the opportunity to participate in soccer programs that are run in a safe, fair, and secure environment. We offer a variety of age appropriate programs that emphasize sportsmanship and team comradery, with an emphasis on helping the individual player develop their athletic skills to their full potential. Through SHGSC, we offer our players the opportunity to participate in either our Travel or Non-Travel program.
SHG Soccer Travel teams participate in various leagues throughout the Baltimore Metropolitan area. Travel is comprised of single gender teams who play at a higher level than our non-travel teams. The commitment level is also higher than that of the non-travel program; coaches usually practice two nights a week and play games on one or both of the weekend days. In addition to league play, our teams participate in various tournaments, as determined by the coaches. Our program is a member of the Archdiocese of Baltimore Soccer Program (ABSP) where we play against other Archdiocese programs. Additionally, we have teams that participate in other highly competitive leagues, including BBSL, CMSA, EDP, and MESL. Some of our teams also continuing playing during the offseason by participating in indoor soccer leagues, futsal, and spring soccer.
We offer various co-educational programs for players ranging from ages 4 to 18. As the children age, the programs increase in competitiveness and intensity.
This is an instructional league where focus is placed on teaching the fundamentals of the game, while encouraging the development of teamwork and friendships. We offer this program for our younger children giving them a place to have fun, develop their soccer skills, all while providing their first exposure to organized soccer. The required commitment is one night a week for practice and Saturday morning games.
For our older children, we group them based on age. At this level, our players participate in structured practices and organized games on local fields. The seasoned coaches take the necessary time to teach their players the nuances of the game. As with our younger players, the time commitment is usually one night a week for practices and games are played on Saturdays.
Beginning in 2011, we were able to provide our members who do not play high school soccer, the opportunity to continue league play in a safe, fun, and friendly environment. The league in which they play is comprised of teams from the various Carroll County Recreational Leagues. Again, the commitment is only one night a week for practices and games are usually played on Sunday afternoons, with an occasionally Wednesday evening game under the lights on the fields at Deer Park.
As always, the SHGSC is looking for volunteers who are passionate about teaching the game to our children to come and coach. We also are in need volunteers to serve behind the scenes. If interested, please contact Colleen Lawlor at email@example.com.
