Time, Punctuality, and More

Wedding liturgies are normally scheduled on Saturdays at either 10:00 a.m., 12:00 noon, or 2:00 p.m. Due to Saturday evening Masses and the Sacrament of Reconciliation, no Saturday evening weddings can be accommodated. Exceptions to this policy need to be made by a priest or deacon of Sacred Heart Parish. Weddings may be celebrated on other days of the week.

It is very important that both the wedding rehearsal and the liturgy itself start promptly at the scheduled time. Quite frequently, there are several weddings celebrated on the same day at Sacred Heart. Starting on time helps to ensure that other couples are not inconvenienced. A time period of one and one-half (1.5) hours is allocated for a wedding liturgy, from scheduled starting time to finish. This includes the talking of photographs. Sacred Heart may require that the taking of photographs cease, should the allotted time frame expire.

Official Witnesses

The witnesses (the Best Man and the Maid/Matron of Honor) may be of any religion. However, they should both be active participants of their faith communities.

Presider's Attendance at Receptions

Due to pastoral responsibilities, the presiding priest or deacon of Sacred Heart parish cannot guarantee attendance at receptions (when this is requested). If a couple wishes the priest or deacon to attend the reception, a printed invitation, with a reply card, should be sent to him. A desire for the presider to pray at the reception should also be communicated to him personally, in advance.

Rice and Birdseed

Guest are requested NOT to throw rice or birdseed nor may flower girls strew flower petals as they all present safety hazards and clean-up problems.
