The call to proclaim the Living Word of God is an honor and a responsibility. In many ways, the lector sets the tone for the liturgy by preparing the stories from our long history. Lectoring is much more than reading. It is a ministry of proclamation, giving strong voice to the Word of God found in Sacred Scripture, and announcing the Prayers of the Faithful.
Who we are:
We are a group of Sacred Heart parishioners interested in taking a more active role during the Mass and in serving God’s people at our Parish during Liturgical celebrations by Proclaiming the Word.
Time commitment:
The schedule is set based on individual’s Mass preferences and availability.
Requirements:
Confirmed Catholics, eighth grade and older, who love the Scriptures, possess a good speaking voice, and are willing to study and pray over the Scriptures.
Training is provided.
"The Lord God has given me a well-trained tongue, that I may know how to speak to the weary a word that will rouse them." (Isaiah 50:4)
What we do:
We serve at the Saturday Vigil, Sunday and Holy Day Masses or other liturgical Celebrations by:
◆ carrying the gospel book in procession (in the absence of a deacon),
◆ proclaiming the Word of God to the Assembly,
◆ announcing the General Intercessions to the faithful.
